Handcrafted Dolma (Green Tara) – Symbol of Compassion, Protection & Enlightenment
Title: Handcrafted Dolma (Green Tara) – Symbol of Compassion, Protection & Enlightenment
Description: In Tibetan Buddhism, Dolma (known as Tara in Sanskrit) is a female Bodhisattva celebrated as the "Mother of Liberation." While there are 21 forms of Tara, the most universally recognized and commonly requested statue is Green Tara. She represents active compassion and swift protection from fear and obstacles.
Symbolism & Meaning:
The Posture of Royal Ease (Lalitasana): Unlike deities seated in full meditation, Dolma sits with her left leg drawn inward (symbolizing absolute control over inner energies) and her right leg extended downward, resting on a small lotus. This shows she is always ready to spring into action to assist beings.
The Right Hand (Varada Mudra): Her Right hand rests on her right knee, palm facing outward in the Varada Mudra, the gesture of supreme generosity and the granting of boons.
The Left Hand (Prithvi/Refuge Mudra): Held gently at her heart, her left hand forms a gesture of refuge. Her thumb and ring finger press together to symbolize the union of wisdom and compassion, while the remaining three fingers point upward, representing the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha).
The Utpala Flowers: Both hands delicately hold the stems of the blue Utpala (night lotus) flowers, which blossom over her shoulders, signifying purity and power.
Craftsmanship & Material: This statue is cast from durable Copper and features a hand-applied, darkened antique finish to highlight the intricate details of the Dolma’s robes and serene facial expression. Please note: This is a hollow-cast copper item, making it sturdy yet light enough to easily move.
Ideal Placement: Traditionally placed inside a Choesham in a pooja hall or a meditation space, ideally at eye level or higher, and never directly on the floor.
